I really enjoyed reading this history of the development of the Ford Mustang. The book discusses many of the individuals who were part of the Mustang development team. Lots of interesting facts such as parts from the existing Ford Falcon were used to develop the new car to keep development cost as low as possible after the losses to Ford Motor Company because of the Edsel. The Edsel only sold 84,000 cars before it was discontinued and the Mustang has sold over 9 million since it was created.Another fact discussed in the book was the first use of disc brakes on an American production car was on the '65 Mustang & '65 Thunderbird. In the early stages of the car's development it was called Torino before it was called Mustang. Lots of historical photos are also included.
I want to 2018 mustang and went a little crazy I’m buying things about it and for it and no longer own the car LOL!
The contents of this book fall into three categories: 1. rehash of common knowledge, 2. details of interest only to devoted Mustang fans. 3. interesting new stuff. There was too much of 1 and 2 for my taste.The author did present some information that was very interesting. This includes the relationships among the many show/experimental cars developed as part of the Mustang project, the complete independence of the Mustang experimental sports car from the production Mustang, the market segments the Mustang was aimed at, Lee Iacocca difficulty in convincing Henry Ford II to produce the Mustang, etc.There is an excessive amount of space given to boilerplate. How many readers don't already know about Henry Ford II becoming president of Ford Motor Company in 1945, the two-seater Thunderbird, the Corvair Monza, etc. There is also a lot of trivial information like the personal histories of the key people involved in the development of the Mustang, the number of early Mustangs with Fairlane turn signal levers, and the sequence of assembly operations. A comparison of the Mustang, Barracuda, and Monza would have been more interesting than many sections of the book.Dedicated fans of early Mustang will enjoy this book much more than readers more interested in the industry in general.
If you like Mustangs, you have to buy this book. Amazing story. Great photos.
I'm a fanatic about ford mustangs. Since 1966 when I went to test drive one with my dad. I was hooked. I certainly think Mr. Fria did a masterful job of telling the history of an American icon. I can't say enough good about this book. Simply well the best early history I've found about Ford's mustang. I really ought to know. I have owned four of them. You gotta read this book if you love Ford Mustangs!!!
I'm a history buff and own a 65 myself. I really wanted to like this book but after 40 pages I stopped reading and started browsing the pictures. A few minutes later I put it down. The author seems to have done an incredible amount of research interviewing many of the key players and gaining insight into the process that developed the car. I just expected the story to be a little more exciting, fun, something.
Love it.
This was a really good book, however; I was hoping to have more pictures. Love Mustangs so I did like the book. It was a gift and I received for Christmas and I have already read it all!
